when iridite started out they really wanted it to represent a wide selection of electronic music - at the time, many of the bigger labels (and many independent ones too) seemed content to pigeon hole everything, generating sub label after sub label, each with its own micro-scene or genre. over the years we feel we ve done a pretty good job of steering clear of the obvious but we were still lacking a little in one important area - house music. although >ga< isnt straight down the line standard house music, it s instrumentation, simple repeating bassline and beats give forward motion that fits nicely with a more old school version of house along with some percussive vocal stabs and eventually, a huge synth string climax- like a cross between early ron trent, fingers inc and kenny larkin. the b side gives us two tracks from one of the most talented young producers working in the field today - jamie greer, who s tha poke guise gave us one of the highlights of ir004 (uncommon sense), moves >fall fwd< in strong style with his unique take on the (original) detroit sound - remaining completely individual, his sound is instantly familiar and yet never derivative or tired. both tracks have the energy to survive on the dance floor but the subtlety and depth to bear repeated listening at home - proper techno

to celebrate the 50th release and 10 years of existence we wanted to showcase something which brought back those early moments of house and techno but still sounded new and exciting. who better to choose for this job than greg oreck with a little help from sasse on the controls..

detroit s new >soundshift< imprint makes a stunning debut with this intoxicating two-tracker. opening up is the soultek remix of billy dalessandro s smashing >don t sleep< release (which was found in the many sets of dan bell, ame, annie mac & pete tong last month) this mix is nothing short of brilliant and will certainly capture the hearts and sets of all those mathew jonson or loco dice fans out there. it has a subtlety that really creeps up on you and before you know it you re tapping your feet and zoning out listening to the intricacies of the music. truly minimal, there are loads of space within the track which is somewhat similar to the original but still a world apart, particularly in the fantastically eerie synth programming. in the forefront of the song is the shimmering and haunting vocal loop, >don t sleep< which has an almost hypnotic effect. (think richie hawtin in closer) the melody of the title is a delicate affair which sips cocktails in the company of some nicely chosen whirring and echoing noises. the build is effected so subtly it verges on melancholy but halfway through a rumbling bassline, appregiated melody and backbeat hi-hat pattern announce a funkier escalation!!

third of a series on the london electronic label mean, expired eggs ep offers as usual a different view of minimal techno nowadays, with cesare vs disorder further establishing his own unusual sound. quirky and groovy but still deep and abstract the ep goes from the highly danceable >motor curry< and >london vertigo< to the inner side with >fernanda< and >heartless<. weird voices and liquid layers underneath characterize the production of this young talent who promises to fill up the early morning dancefloors as well as catching the heartbeat of peak time situations

looking back to a great year, we find david k from the freak n chic posse being one of the most successful newcomers in 2006. freak n chic stands for a kicking mix of techno and acid sounds, which are blended with some house. dj friendly, very danceable but still demanding, with elements of deep house and minimal house…whereas >tender and sugar< seems straighter, darker and more minimal, and the fat but simple beat is the driving element, >mayann< comes along with strong reerences to >Âme< and its synth sounds remind of >rej< or productions of >pasta boys< from italy

this label can t be stopped! another beautifull record with some of the nicest techno ever made. this music will still get to the soul in 10 years.. deep dubby tracks by redshape (!), david hausdorf (great, great track!) and octal industries. nice warm techno tracks with its roots in detroit but with its flowers growing in the eastern parts of germany at the moment!
